NUTRITIONAL TIPS
1. It's important to eat at regular intervals during the day, ideally every 3-5 hours, this helps to keep blood sugar levels stable
3. Most of us do not drink enough water which can lead to dehydration. Symptoms of dehydration include dizziness, lack of concentration, irritability and headaches. Aim to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day.
4. We should be eating 5 serving of fruit and vegetables a day. To retain the benefits of vegetables place them in a sieve over a pot of boiling water and steam thoroughly.
5. The butter versus margarine debate continues to rage. Good advice is not to eat a lot of either but to eat a little of both. The best oil for cooking is extra virgin olive oil
6. Regarding alcohol . If you are watching your weight',
it is important to know that calories from alcohol cannot be used as fuel for
exercise nor do they provide any vitamins, minerals or fibre..
7. When buying yoghurt, always choose
'live bio' products. They help to
restore the good bacteria that aids digestion. Dairy products are a high
source of fat and cholesterol, but they do provide us with other
beneficial nutrients. The best approach is to buy 'low or fat free' brands of
milk, cheese, yoghurt . These products will provide you with essential
nutrients with out the fat element.
8. Ensure that you eat various types of meat with the
recommended serving, following the food guide pyramid. It is highly
recommended that you intake oily fish (tuna, mackerel etc) at least 3 times a
week to ensure you receive the essential omega 3 oil.
